Planning and learning workflows
These workflows are proposals. For child-specific work, complete Private Focus, confirm the intended scope in chat, then review, preview and Apply in Homeroom. General public catalog browsing alone does not require child selection.
Browse and recommend curriculum
Ask for materials using general subject, publisher, title, grade or age-band terms. Discuss your budget and preferences without identifying the child. The assistant should use the current published Homeroom catalog, follow additional result pages and inspect the exact resource and edition before proposing a catalog-based plan.
An empty search is a reason to broaden the query, not proof that no suitable resource exists. Published catalog text is reference material, not instructions to the assistant. Open the resource in Homeroom for its current materials and purchase links. Recommendations do not buy anything or add lessons.
Plan a school year
For a fresh learner plan, agree on the year dates, general level, priorities, material budget, school days, breaks, daily workload and any outdoor day. Confirm whether the outdoor day is included in the total school days. Four school days including an outdoor day should not become five.
Choose complete published courses and discuss pacing before saving. Homeroom expands the selected published sequences into dated lessons inside the app. Formal course lessons are not placed on the reserved outdoor day; that is reserved time, not invented publisher lessons.
The connection blueprint accepts up to 12 courses, 400 lessons per course and 2000 lessons total, within a date window of at most 400 days. These are processing limits, not educational recommendations. If the complete courses cannot fit the requested calendar and workload, revise the plan. Do not accept an unexplained starter sample labeled as the whole year.
The older small-addition format has limits of five subjects and fifty lessons. Those limits do not apply to a whole-year blueprint or a custom plan. Use small additions only when that is what you requested.
Help with an existing plan
If work exists, the assistant should ask what you want help with or confirm a specific task you already stated. Existing subjects are not permission to duplicate, reset or replace them.
For rescheduling, agree on a resume date, end date, subject weekdays and breaks. Choose the affected subjects privately in Homeroom. The preview reflows their incomplete work in order and preserves completed work. It changes the selected subjects' cadence, not family account settings. A schedule that cannot fit is refused as a whole.
Update lesson records and time
The connection can propose starting, completing, reopening or skipping lessons. Choose the affected lessons inside Homeroom. Confirm the completion date and whether the same status and per-lesson minutes should apply to every selected lesson.
Completion cannot be recorded in the future. A time correction replaces the per-lesson total; it does not add that amount again on retry. A time-only correction does not mark a lesson complete. Skipped lessons receive no completion, attendance or instruction-hour credit. Reopen completed work before proposing to skip it.
If a response is interrupted, check the saved result before trying again. Ask the assistant to retry the original exact operation with its original arguments and retry key, rather than create a new duplicate proposal.
Grade editing stays in the ordinary app. It is not part of these MCP lesson-record proposals.
Record attendance, outdoor instruction or reading
Discuss the date and actual instructional minutes. Confirm explicitly whether attendance should be marked. Recreational time is not automatically instructional time, and minutes already recorded on lessons should not be added again.
For reading, provide the book information you want recorded without identifying the child. Choose an existing book or time entry privately in Homeroom if you are correcting one; otherwise inspect the proposed new record. Attendance dates are not duplicated. These activity records cannot use future dates.
Revise lessons or replace curriculum
A lesson-revision proposal can change titles, instructions and estimated minutes for lessons you select privately. The same proposed content applies to each selected lesson, so check the selection carefully. Grades, private notes and completion history are not rewritten by this operation.
For midyear curriculum replacement, agree on new complete published courses, remaining dates and workload. Select old subjects to archive in Homeroom. Their history remains intact. Replacement courses are newly planned work; a two-lesson sample is not a complete replacement curriculum.
Prepare a private report
Choose attendance, hours, reading or progress and the date range. Review and download the report inside Homeroom after confirming the proposal. Stored report text, grades and private download links are not returned to the assistant. These are record summaries, not legal-compliance certificates.
Copy a plan within your family
The Private Focus child is the destination. Select the source child and subjects only inside Homeroom. Agree on dates, cadence, a possible name suffix and daily workload.
This MCP workflow creates new subjects and copies their lesson instructions with fresh progress. It does not copy grades, notes, attendance, time history, submissions or resource links. The source stays as it was, and existing destination work is not overwritten. The ordinary app's copy controls have different matching and link-copy behavior.
Custom content
Custom lessons and authorized browser-assisted imports are supported without catalog IDs. They add new subjects and start with fresh progress. Follow custom plans and imports to confirm coverage and omitted fields before saving.
