MCP troubleshooting

Start by identifying the failed stage: provider setup, Homeroom sign-in, tool discovery, Private Focus, save, private review, preview, Apply or rollback. Those stages have different requirements.

ProblemNext step
Connections or the MCP guide is missingSign in as the family owner at homeroom.academy and open Connections. Production setup is enabled for ChatGPT and hosted Claude. A separate dev site has its own availability and connections.
Gemini, Grok or Other is unavailableReturn to Connections. There is no enabled setup workaround.
The provider says connected but exposes no Homeroom toolsCheck actual tool discovery and provider compatibility. A permission badge is not a discovery result.
You approved the child and the pending request disappearedHave the assistant check the existing request's status using the reference it retained.
There are no children to selectAdd one in Homeroom's Students settings, then return before the request expires.
The assistant asks for names or extra read access just to draftReturn to the draft-planning flow. Choose the child privately; a draft target does not require study-data release.
A request or task expiredBegin a new request and approve its target. Secure-review expiry is a separate timer.
A saved proposal is not in the pending-request listOpen Private change drafts. Pending requests and saved proposals are different lists.
Preview refuses excessive or impossible workRevise the dates, pacing or scope. Do not call a truncated sample a complete plan.
Apply refuses because current work changedReview the latest records and prepare a fresh exact preview.
Execution is blocked for an externally connected calendarThe connection cannot safely execute that workflow for this target. Use the ordinary app flow or ask support about the limitation.
Rollback refusesLater work or dependencies may conflict. Preserve that work and inspect the recorded inverse.

Interrupted results

Do not assume a timeout means a failed save or Apply. Inspect saved drafts and the execution record first. The assistant should repeat uncertain calls using the original exact arguments and retry key; a fresh key can create another proposal.

If the provider has cached an older tool description, begin a fresh conversation and inspect its discovered tools. Some provider workspaces require their owner to refresh approved app tools. Follow the provider's current instructions; repeatedly granting more Homeroom permissions is not a general repair.

Disconnecting

End secure review to lock this browser's private review, and remove Homeroom from the provider's connector settings when you want to stop using it there. Those actions differ: ending review does not revoke the provider grant, and provider-side removal may not revoke it immediately.

Saved plans and provider chat history are not deleted by disconnecting. For immediate grant revocation, use the controls actually offered by Homeroom or ask support; do not assume that an authorized badge or its disappearance proves revocation.

What to report

Send the provider and client surface, failed step, time and timezone, and a brief error message. State whether actual tools were discovered and whether a draft or execution was saved. Do not send credentials, student identities, exported records, temporary task references or complete authorization URLs.
